The Village Car Derby and Chili Dinner

The Village Car Derby will take place on February 8 from 5:30-8:00 pm.

After a chili supper, the 3rd Annual Village Car Derby will take place.

Race categories will be for adults or kids. Spectators are needed, so come out to cheer on the drivers even if you don’t have a car entry. Prizes will be awarded. Car kits are available at no cost from Wilbur Oudman or the Traditions office. If you’ve never made a derby car before, no worries. There are many videos and web posts on the internet. This one starts with a slightly different kit, but it uses every day household tools instead of power tools. You can make a new car or use one from a previous Village derby.

If you would like to use some other tools or need a little help, Wilbur Oudman will offer basic advice and have his workshop available. You can contact him at 219-405-9225. The Village derby car making rules are:  Axles, wheels, and body shall be from kit only.  Total car width not to exceed 3 inches.  Axle width cannot be modified.  Diameter of wheels may not be changed.  Weights may be added.  Weight not to exceed 8 oz.  No loose parts.  Axles may be lubricated with silicone or graphite. Watch next month’s Village Voice and the Village Facebook page for more information. If you have questions, feel free to call or text Wilbur. People….get ready to start your engines!
