Update: New Little Library
We are thrilled to announce that a brand-new Little Library has been built and installed in Triangle Park, right in the same sunny spot as the original. After our previous library was damaged in a storm, this fresh replacement is officially open for business and already stocked with some great finds. Feel free to stop by, browse the selection, or drop off a book donation to share the love of reading with your neighbors. Happy summer reading, everyone!
Justin Roseberry’s VBH POA Meeting Recap for April 23, 2026 The board met on April 23rd. Here's what's happening around the neighborhood: Upcoming Events: Our Earth Day Cleanup is coming up. Supplies are ready, and we'll have pizza, water, and drink mixes afterward. Mark your calendars for Bounce Into Summer, too. Tables and chairs are provided, but please bring your own canopy if you'd like shade. Looking ahead to the 4th of July, we've booked a caricature artist and a DJ, and Bay City Tacos will be on-site cooking buffet-style. The menu includes make-your-own tacos and burrito bowls (steak, pork, chicken, and veggie options), Mexican street corn, cilantro lime rice, beans, mac and cheese, and all the fixings.
Around the Neighborhood: The Little Library is back, thanks to Sarah's dad, and we'll be pouring concrete for the new legs shortly (811 has been called). Sarah will also be putting the hammocks up this week. At Triangle Park, the water spigot has been replaced and is working again, the storage unit has new locks and keys, and bench refinishing is underway. The gazebo electric has been fixed; we're still working with 1st American to get the playground outlets repaired before the 4th of July event.
Trees and Lampposts: Our tree grant application has been held until fall, but we've been approved for alternate species. We'll be sharing an updated tree list soon so that residents and builders know what's available. The new lamppost up front is in — we're working on getting a fresh banner ordered for it.
Resident Event: The board approved a Triangle Park rental on July 25th for a resident's graduation party. Congratulations!
Alleys and Potholes: This winter was tough on our alleys, and construction traffic hasn't helped. The town's street repair grant doesn't cover alleys, so we're going to ask to be added to a future town budget. In the meantime, residents can report potholes directly on the town's website* — it works! One reported up front was filled in within a couple of days.
Heads Up: New House Bills: A few new state House Bills affecting HOAs go into effect in July. We're working with Robin to make sure VBH is fully compliant before then. More info to come.
Village Architectural Review Committee (VARC) Update: We've made progress on a previously stalled VARC project. We're also working through some email communication issues to make sure all current VARC members stay in the loop on submissions.

FRIDAY, JUNE 26 FROM 12 P.M. TO 5:45 P.M. @ TRIANGLE PARK BOUNCE INTO SUMMERJump City is coming back with their inflatable fun: an obstacle course, the pirate ship combo (for bouncing, climbing, and sliding), the sunset bounce house and the dual axe throw. Parents will need to sign a waiver, and kids will need a wristband to bounce: no exceptions. While there will be some board members present, they are not the babysitters for the day. Parents/families are required to be present supervising their own kids. Some tables and chairs will be provided. It is recommended that you bring a pop-up canopy if you'll be there for a while. There will be two vendors available for purchasing food and beverages:

WEDNESDAY, MAY 20 TOWN WIDE LEAF PICK UPThere will be a town wide leaf pick up on Wednesday, May 20. Please pile your leaves in the town right-of-way along the pavement for pick up. Do not put leaves in ditches or over storm drains. Leaves must be clear of sticks, debris, and pet waste.

This groundbreaking ceremony for the new segment of the Marquette Greenway in Burns Harbor will be on Friday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Little Calumet River Parking Lot at 399 Howe Rd, Porter, IN 46304.
The special guest is Dale Brier, Deputy Director of Community Grants & Trails for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) along with key officials from the National Park Service, the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC), Burns Harbor, Porter, and across the region.

SATURDAY, JUNE 6 FROM 9 A.M. TO NOON KIDS’ FISHING DERBYThe Burns Harbor Park Department will be hosting its 9th annual Kids’ Fishing Derby. Age groups from 6 to 10 years old and from 11 to 14 years old may compete for prizes in the following categories: most fish caught, largest fish, and smallest fish. Prizes will be awarded in each age group. If you do not have your own equipment, it will be supplied. Come join us for the fun!

SUMMER CAMP WEEK 1: DAY CAMP FROM JUNE 8 TO JUNE 12 FROM 9 A.M. TO NOON, ART CAMP FROM 12:30 P.M. TO 2:30 P.M. SUMMER CAMPThe Burns Harbor Park Department will have a Summer Camp from Monday, June 8 through Friday, June 12. Day Camp is from 9 a.m. to noon. Day Camp consists of outside play, arts and crafts, and swimming (weather permitting). Please bring a towel and have your child/children dressed in a swimsuit with sunscreen on before your child/children arrive. You can register the first day your child attends the camp. Day Camp is for ages 4 through 10 and is free.
Art Camp is from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $50 per child, per week for Art Camp. A link will be posted on the Burns Harbor Park Department Facebook page the first week of June to register for Art Camp.
Summer Camp Week 2 is Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17 and Week 3 is Monday, August 3 through Friday, August 7.

SATURDAY, JUNE 20 FROM 4 P.M. TO 5 P.M. SPECTACULAR EGG EVENT & GENERAL EGG HUNT — A HUNT FOR EVERY BUNNY!The Spectacular Egg Event is a free Easter Egg Hunt for children with special needs and their families. Join us at Lakeland Park in Burns Harbor at 4 p.m, on June 20. Enjoy egg hunts that are specifically designed for your child.
For more details about egg hunts for children on the autism spectrum, those with sensory processing issues, those who are visually impaired, and those with wheelchairs or mobility restrictions, go to the Burns Harbor Park Department’s Facebook page.
The General Egg Hunt will start at 4 p.m. as well for age groups 0 to 2 years old, 3 to 5 years old, 7 to 9 years old and 10 to 12 years old. Please arrive at 3:45 p.m. The Egg Hunt will start promptly at 4 p.m.

SATURDAY, JUNE 27: KIDS’ 1K FUN RUN @ 5:15 P.M. TO 5:45 P.M., FOOTLOOSE 5K RUN @ 6 P.M. TO 8 P.M. 2026 FOOTLOOSE 5K & KIDS 1K FUN RUNJoin the Burns Harbor Park Department on June 27 for their Footloose 5K & Kids 1K Fun Run! This gnarly 5K run/walk celebrates the most righteous decade of all time! Celebrate the days of big hair, neon colors, leg warmers, headbands, and some of the best party music ever recorded. Gather up your totally tubular 80's gear, invite your gal pals and homeboys, and come on out to Lakeland Park.

Early Packet Pick Up is on Friday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. at the Extra Mile Fitness Co., 3400 Calumet Avenue, Valparaiso, IN. The Footloose 5K Run/Walk is on Saturday, June 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 1200 Lakeland Park Drive, Burns Harbor, IN US 46304. There’s a Kids’ Fun Run (ages 3 to 11) from 5:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. at the same location as the 5K.

To keep insects & pollinators safe, you should delay the 1st mow of the season until May or late May, and ideally keep your mower blade high, around 3–4". Popularized as “No Mow May," waiting allows early-season flowers like dandelions to bloom for hungry bees and provides habitat for emerging, overwintering insects. Liam Hipp is still trying to earn money to pay for his driver’s education class. He’s willing to pick up dog poop from your yard at a reasonable price. Emily is 15 years old and loves kids. She is first aid certified and has experience babysitting and working with younger children.
