Good day, neighbors, Justin Roseberry’s VBH POA Meeting Recap for February 24, 2026 Thanks to everyone who joined us for the February board meeting! Here's a quick rundown of what we covered. Solicitors: This is a reminder that solicitors in Burns Harbor are required to have a permit from the town and are only allowed to solicit during daytime hours. If someone knocks on your door without a permit, or if they're ignoring your "no soliciting" signs, please call the non-emergency police number: 219-787-9412. You can ask to be connected to dispatch if it's after hours. The town council has reached out to Frontier about this, and we're waiting to hear back. 4th of July Picnic: We're exploring entertainment options for this year's picnic! Ideas on the table include a DJ, karaoke, and a local caricature artist. If you have thoughts or suggestions, reach out to any board member. And just a reminder — the POA is no longer allowed to put on a fireworks display in the subdivision. Traditions Events: Unfortunately, Traditions is only allowing us one event per year in their building. For 2026, that will be our Holiday Party. We may look at alternating between Christmas and Halloween in future years — stay tuned. Garden Committee Updates: There’s lots happening on the green side of things! The town has an official tree list that differs from the Street Parkway Trees List we'd previously posted, so we've taken the old list down from the website until we get final approval. Please contact the POA board before planning any street tree purchases. We've also applied for a regional CommuniTree grant to plant 10 ornamental trees in Gazebo Park and Triangle Park. We should hear back by mid-April. If you have an invasive species tree on your property (Bradford pear, burning bush, Norway maple, etc.), there's a program where you can get it replaced with a native tree for free. Please see the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission’s (NIRPC’s) website for their Invasive Species Replacement Program. Over at Triangle Park, the Monarch Waystation is coming along nicely with butterfly friendly plants going in around the pergola. We're close to meeting certification requirements! Please help us by keeping little ones out of those garden beds while the plants get established — fencing is going up as a reminder. We also have an ongoing need for volunteers to Adopt a Garden Bed and to Adopt a Tree in our parks to help keep our parks healthy and beautiful. If you're new to the neighborhood, expect a welcome bag with info about the neighborhood, local businesses, how to sign up for this newsletter, how to pay dues online, and more. We're also adding a QR code for the VBH POA website to make it easy to find us. If you'd like to help put welcome bags together, contact Mary Warner at mwarnerinks@gmail.com and Angel Bernahl at angelbernahl@gmail.com. Extra hands are always appreciated! Derby & Cook-Off: Mark your calendars! The Pinewood Derby and Cook-Off is officially set for September 12th. Matt and Erin will need help transporting the track, so if you've got a truck or large vehicle, we'd love a volunteer closer to the date. Village Architectural Review Committee (VARC): Bob Bernahl has volunteered and been confirmed as the newest member of the VARC. Welcome aboard, Bob! Other Items: We're still waiting on the replacement of the streetlight at the subdivision entrance off of Route 20. It's been over a year since it was knocked out, and parts and insurance have been holding things up. We've also asked the town about adding reflective paint to sidewalk corners for better visibility. This meeting was streamed live on the Village of Burns Harbor Facebook page. We're also looking into setting up a YouTube channel so that anyone who misses a meeting can catch up later.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25 @ 7 P.M. @ TRADITIONS CLUBHOUSE MARCH POA MEETINGJoin us for our March POA Meeting on Wednesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. at Traditions Clubhouse where we’ll discuss the April Earth Day Cleanup, getting a new Little Library back up and who we can lean on for that, and a few updates from Robin Russell at 1st American Property Management Company. Additionally, there’s a resident who wants to sync up her nonprofit charity with a Village event, which will open the door for a discussion about future fundraising for residents’ nonprofits. |

SATURDAY, APRIL 25 FROM 9 A.M. TO 1 P.M. EARTH DAY NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP & PIZZA PARTYKeep the Village clean and help out on Earth Day with our Neighborhood Cleanup & Pizza Party. We’ll meet up at 11 a.m. in Triangle Park under the pergola to clean the Village of garbage. Garbage bags and gloves will be provided to those participating. All neighbors — adults and kids — are encouraged to participate. At 1 p.m. there will be pizza and pop for those who participate in this event. SATURDAY, APR. 4 @ 1 P.M. SPECTACULAR EGG EVENT & GENERAL EGG HUNT — A HUNT FOR EVERY BUNNY!The Spectacular Egg Event is a FREE Easter Egg Hunt for children with special needs and their families. Join us at Lakeland Park, Burns Harbor at 1 p.m. on April 4. Enjoy egg hunts that are specifically designed for your child. For more details about egg hunts for children on the autism spectrum, those with sensory processing issues, those who are visually impaired, and those with wheelchairs or mobility restrictions, go to the Burns Harbor Park Department’s Facebook page. The General Egg Hunt will start at 1 p.m. as well for age groups 0-2, 3-5, 7-9, and 10-12. Please arrive at 12:45 p.m. The Egg Hunt will start promptly at 1 p.m.

THURSDAY, MAY 7 LARGE GARBAGE COLLECTION DAYLarge garbage items will be picked up on Thursday, May 7. We recommend that you place your containers near the edge of the roadway the evening before pickup. You may place one large item out. 2026 MARQUETTE GREENWAY CONSTRUCTIONBurns Harbor will build the final segment of the Marquette Greenway from Stanley Street to N. Haglund Road through the Indiana Dunes National Park’s Mnoke Prairie with a $5 million grant from the IDNR Next Level Trails Program.
Key dates:
February 16 through March 31, 2026: Tree clearing March 11, 2026: Construction Bid Award April 1, 2026: Estimated Construction Start
Residents,
Tree clearing crews with equipment will be using the existing trail at Stanley Street to remove trees. Construction bidders may also be visiting the project area to gather information. We appreciate your patience and ongoing support of this town amenity. |

NEIGHBORHOOD KID ENTREPRENEURSSee below for our neighborhood kid entrepreneurs: Liam Hipp is still trying to earn money to pay for his driver’s education class. He’s willing to pick up dog poop from your yard at a reasonable price. He’s also open to doing any other minor odd jobs he can help with. You can reach his mom, Nicole Hipp, at 219.680.8215 for more info and to get connected. Emily Clark provides babysitting services. Emily is 15 years old and loves kids. She is first aid certified and has experience babysitting and working with younger children. Rates are negotiable based on the number of children and hours, but the starting rate is around $10/hour. Call or text her mom, Chris, at 785.871.5680 for more info and to get connected. Bonnie Clark’s services include dog walking and pet sitting. Bonnie is 13 years old and loves animals. She has experience pet sitting for cats and is eager to learn about caring for other small animals. She is also an experienced dog walker with her own large dog and some smaller neighborhood dogs.
