Justin Roseberry’s VBH POA Meeting Recap for March 25, 2026

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the March board meeting! Here's a quick rundown of what we covered.

Earth Day Cleanup on April 25th: Join us from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. under the pergola at Triangle Park to help spruce up the neighborhood for Earth Day! We'll have gloves, bags, and supplies on hand. Pizza, pop, and water will be provided afterward as a thank you to all our volunteers. Come out for a couple hours and help keep the Village looking great!

Little Library Update: Our Little Library took a hit during one of the recent windstorms and got knocked down. The good news is all the books and inventory were recovered safe and dry, and Sarah's dad has graciously taken on the repair. We're also exploring the idea of adding a second Little Library on the other side of the subdivision. If any local Girl Scout troops are interested in taking that on as a project, let us know!

First American / Robin Updates: The electrical work at the gazebo is being scheduled and should be completed soon, which is important with irrigation season right around the corner. We also confirmed there are now 137 residential units in the Village. The board discussed some concerns around VARC communication and processes, including the need for better onboarding for new VARC members and clearer procedures for how applications are reviewed. We're working with First American to address these items. As for the streetlight at the entrance off Route 20, we're still waiting on an update from Robin, and we're continuing to follow up.

4th of July Picnic Food: We're mixing things up this year! Instead of the usual barbecue spread, we're looking at a couple of options: a build-your-own taco/burrito bar with an on-site cook or a grilled burgers-and-dogs setup. We're also making sure there are options for residents with different dietary needs. And as always — please plan to bring a dessert to share! It doesn't have to be homemade; store-bought is perfectly welcome. More details to come as we nail things down.

Spotlight: Speak Their Name: Resident Brittany and her sister, Shana, introduced their nonprofit, Speak Their Name, which provides sacred spaces for bereaved families through remembrance, healing outreach, and the installation of "wind phones" — symbolic phones where people can go to talk to loved ones they've lost. They've already installed several in the area, including in Chesterton and Portage. The board is supportive of having them participate at a future Village event, possibly the Bounce into Summer event, where they could do a small fundraiser like selling s'mores or popcorn. We're checking with First American to make sure everything is good to go.

Good of the Order: A few benches in Triangle Park have rust damage and sharp edges that need attention. We've flagged this with Robin as a safety concern. On the garden front, volunteers cleaned up the two beds by the pergola and started planting pollinator plants for the Monarch Waystation, including New England asters. The milkweed plants needed for certification have been ordered and should arrive soon. Signs requesting no mowing or spraying will be going up, along with a small fence along the sidewalk to protect the new plantings. Parents, please remind your kiddos to stay out of the garden beds while everything gets established!

Have you been welcomed to the neighborhood? Your neighbors are glad you are here and look forward to meeting you! The Welcome Committee is seeking to enhance what we share with our new neighbors. Do you have favorite resources you think we should include in our Welcome bags—favorite restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, food and household sources, recreational activities, hobbies, health and fitness resources, doctors, dentists, hair salons, barbers, churches, school and extracurricular activities info, child care, pet services and supplies, car care, lawn, yard and tree care, garden centers, home service providers like HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliance, painting, remodeling, etc.? 

What would you like to see included in our Welcome Bags? What kinds of things would help you feel welcomed?
